TAN AI LING from Malaysia, an undergraduate student in Finance and Economic Institute
When I was in Malaysia, I heard a lot of people saying that Xiamen is a very beautiful city, and Xiamen was also ranked as one of China's "most suitable city for living", as well as China's "most romantic leisure city". So when choosing the universities of China, I chose the university in Xiamen, and I found that it is more beautiful than I had ever imagined. Jimei University is located in Jimei District, and it has largely retained its cultural and historical footprint; the buildings in Jimei reflect the typical architectural style of the land of overseas Chinese in South Fujian Province.
When I first started studying at Jimei University, I had a lot of trouble in my life and study, but my classmates and teachers are very friendly and enthusiastic to help me in solving these difficulties, so that I’m able to adapt the environment in a short time. In the weekends, my friends and I will go to Wanda Plaza where is just opposite side of the school for shopping and watch movies. The place I love the most is the road from campus to the school gate, because there is a beautiful artificial lake on the left, and there are some solemn teaching buildings on the right side, including the highest building in Jimei University - Shangda building. At the Dragon Boat Festival, the dragon boat race will be held at Dragon Boat pool, which is just walking distance from the campus. My classmates and I often go to the snack streets beside the campus - Shigu road and Suncuo, a variety of delicious foods will be found over there. Although the 4 years of college life is about to end, but I will still miss my time in this University, because it brings me not only knowledge, but also a lot of friendships and happiness!
SAMBOU OLIVIER SIHANDIEBE from Senegal, a PhD candidate in Fishery Resources
I am a PhD student of the College of Fisheries at Jimei University. I was offered a PhD scholarship to study at Jimei University by the Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship.First of all, studying in China (Xiamen City),more exactly at Jimei University , has been an amazing educational and cultural experience. I am proud to be at Jimei University as it is a highly reputable university which focus on individuals’ needs in every aspect. I have not only learnt a lot academic knowledge ,but also Chinese language and culture that have helped me a lot.
I have always felt safe here, day and night at a beautiful campus. My life at Jimei University is so colourful. I play football weekly with my Chinese friends and we have football competition at the Jimei campus. As an international student of this university, I have been treated amazingly by Chinese students, lab mates, professors and administrative officers.
MUIHASOON KITTIYAKORN from Tailand, an undergraduate student in School of Chinese Language and Literature

Before I decided to study at Jimei University, I felt excited and anxious because it was the first time for me to be such far away from my hometown and family. But the decision had been made.
The first time I came to Jimei University, I was very impressed by the beautiful and attractive view I saw. I am majoring in the Chinese Education at School of Chinese Language and Literature. I met my new friends from many parts of China, USA, Philippines, Indonesia, etc. Being friends with them has given me opportunities to get familiar with cultures of these countries. In the class room my Chinese friends are so nice to me. They are very friendly and help me with everything. I feel secured around them.
STEPHEN LEODI PUTRA from INDONESIA, a Master’s Student in Applied Economics
Studying Chinese and returning home immediately to continue my master degree are my main objectives since before I came to China, however studying in Jimei University totally changed my mindset. It was no more than a coincidence to tell you the truth that I ended up in Jimei University. I was enrolled in another school in Xiamen to study Mandarin before I came to China, however the environment of the school that I enrolled to was not suitable for my studies. Having no other option other than wasting my time waiting to go home, I tried to enroll to Jimei University, and truthfully, there’s no single bit of regret that I actually am studying in this beautiful school.
Jimei District in Xiamen City, where Jimei University is located, has been in rapid development since 5 years ago, where there wasn’t Wanda Plaza or any shopping center at that time or the transportation line isn’t as good as it is right now. The government currently is constructing subway transportation, which is anticipated to be finished this year. The environment is very soothing and natural, and very suitable for people who like to walk or ride bicycle whenever they try to go somewhere. The people here is a wonder. They are always friendly and warm towards strangers and always compliment my Mandarin language is good (although I know it’s not true and they only try to make me happy☺).
Jimei University has been very kind and helpful to me. The people in the top management section are always ready and greeted me whole-heartedly whenever I am faced with problems or difficulties in studying. The campus itself is an indescribable beauty of hidden gem in Xiamen, and most importantly the warmth that the people here in Jimei University has make me dumbstruck and love this city more than I had loved China before. I have made a lot of new friends since I came here, both Chinese and foreigners, and all of them brings me joy and experiences that I will never forget.
On weekdays, I usually spend my time studying in the library with my friends, consulting and discussing any studying materials that we have studied and will be studying together. On my free time to make my life balance, I usually like to hit the gym and go workout with my friends. On weekends, I would go out discovering the city’s best cuisines, as food travelling is one of my hobbies. And such is my ever-fascinating life in Jimei University.
